I do all my back-ups to my external hard drive. Now granted, if my house burns down or my laptop and external hard drive die on the exact same day, I'm screwed, but external hard drives are relatively cheap if mine does some day die and MS gets sufficiently cranky with me when I don't back up my laptop that I usually do it reasonably often so I feel that is sufficient protection.
