Thank you!
And, yeah, getting over my Canada fear was, well, a very good thing. (It was all a terrible misunderstanding, and the moral of this story is: don't try to explain the plot of Fiddler on the Roof to a four-year-old. It could lead to a lifetime of amusing border incidents.)
I can be heard telling my family: a 2 br apartment for $300? Wow. That's cheap! 4 BR house for 170,000? Holy crap!
I know. Sometimes, I look at the real estate listings of random cities, just to see what we could get there if we sold our house here. Oh, LA, why does your housing market have to be so crazy?
Is Heroes, Veronica Mars S1, Arrested Development, Friday Night Lights, Dexter or The Office (embarrassment squick right? but there's some great fic out there!) on the Netflix queue?
Heroes isn't; Best Beloved has been thoroughly repelled by the vids. (She's blood phobic. There seems to be a character in Heroes who spends a lot of time self-mutilating in a very extreme way. So she'll need persuasion before she's willing to consider that one. I invite persuasion, though!)
Veronica Mars isn't; neither of us knows much about it at all, actually, but the vids generally make it look like a teen love type series, and generally those don't work for either of us. However, I have seen a few vid that focused on a more mystery/detective aspect, and those looked interesting. I'm just not sure what the actual canon might be like.
Friday Night Lights isn't out on DVD yet, AFAIK.
Dexter - well, see above about blood phobia. She's actually read the books, and we've seen some great vids for the series, but I don't think she could handle the TV show. Reading about blood is much less phobia-triggering than actually seeing it.
The Office is. I blame
annakovsky for this; she makes it sound incredibly appealing. (Embarrassment squicky, though? I did not know that. Eeep!)
And, actually, Best Beloved has already seen X/1999. (And I have seen some fabulous vids for it.)
And it sounds unlikely but maybe someday you'll give vidding a try? It really is fun and a noble experiment even if it fails.
*snickers*
First there's the problem of getting the clips; I understand you have to watch the source to do that. And, second, if I made a vid, the odds are good that - well, I think I said somewhere on this page that vids are a chance for me to look through the eyes of someone who understands the source. If I vidded, it would likely turn into a chance for other people to look through the eyes of someone who doesn't understand the source: I'd make a vid that looked right to me, and everyone else would be utterly bewildered. (I mean, like, if I made a LKBV - something that speaks to my inner twelve-year-old, in other words - it would probably involve carefully recutting the source to remove all the people.) So, as an experiment, I think it's one that would be doomed to failure.
Vividcon in less than a month, YAY!
Oh my god, I know!
