Older fandoms, you confuse me so. The story I'm reading right now has piercing gazes, searing gazes, cuddling, comforting, lengthy descriptions of eyes that change color (Green! Hazel! Gold! No, I'm not kidding - really, gold, and this isn't the right fandom for him to have been implanted with a Goa'uld.), marriage proposals, men of action sharing their feelings in astonishing detail and with great (sometimes searing) honesty, a guy telling another guy how beautiful he is, holding hands, kissing, and two adult men (of action!) with extensive disposable incomes living together and sharing a bed.

And it's gen.*

I am patiently waiting for the mutual declarations of eternal love while hugging (or crying; I'd totally take crying) in the rain. Then, and only then, will I be able to stop reading.

So, does anyone have a story from an older fandom to recommend to me? You people have mostly been at this longer than me - surely you've got some nice gen or slash story favorite from a pre-LJ fandom that you could link me to. Gen or slash welcome - especially gen that I can read as gen. Seriously. Save me from myself. And this story. I am just bewildered, here.

-Footnote-

* Another gen story in the same fandom (but by a different person) features a noted canonical horndog turning down NSA sex with a beautiful woman because he's in love with someone else - that someone being, of course, the guy who is his Entirely Not Slashy Totally Hetero Life Partner. (It also had a paragraph about their great and abiding love, and the Totally Hetero Life Partner isn't even in the story. Nor is there any explanation of why the THLP would want his "friend" to turn down the sex - I mean, seriously, it was just presented as "this is what you do when you're in love with your THLP, forswear sex and cleave only unto him, but in a straight and manly way." I guess I am just not straight enough to understand that.) And the author's note contained a diatribe against slash. Oh, my people.

OMG, I really want to see that vid, but I can't watch it on IMEEM. (IMEEM will no longer let me play vids. It keeps telling me to upgrade to Flash 9, and I'm like: I CAN'T. LEAVE ME ALONE.) Is there a download link, by any chance?

Also: WOW. That is - quite the canon, there. I'm kind of surprised it's not a bigger fandom. But, hmmm - the legal fandoms don't seem to get as big, generally speaking.

You said it TWICE. (On the Kiss Kiss Bang Bang story. You were entirely right, of course. The best part was when I read those comments out loud to Best Beloved, and she hurt herself laughing.)

..No one has informed you of the joy that is Boston Legal yet?

There is canon bed-sharing.

There is canon bed-sharing while tied together with rope.

Because Alan might *die* if they don't.

There is canon accidental bed-sharing, where Alan wakes up cuddling Denny and noboby remembers why.

Followed by two weeks of half-serious 'We slept together!' comments.

Followed by random one-offs in various episodes where they come up with BS excuses (on the order of 'my hotel is being painted' and 'I'm lonely') to have 'sleepovers'. For weeks at a time.

There is canon proposal of marriage. There is canon signing of each others' *powers of attorney*, accompanied by 'I do's and champagne toast at a fancy restaurant.

There is minor nervous breakdowns, followed by weekends at the spa together pretending to be lovers. Just for giggles. There is long discussions about how one of them having a girlfriend won't change the relationship, because they are each other's most important priority, occasionally including monologues about how just because they aren't having sex doesn't mean they can't be closer than lovers. Followed by weeks of open jealously until said girlfriend leaves complaining that they can't manage real relationships with anyone but each other.

...and that just *skims the surface*.

Thing is? There's hardly any slashfic, or wasn't last I checked. You'd have to actually watch the canon if you want Alan/Denny loving.

I love this icon, because every time I post with it as least one person responds with joy!

I really want to be able to watch some old mathnet, but I can't find any. I've managed to get my hands on a VHS of the Bloodhound Gang (the kids with the talking computer) but no Mathnet yet. :(

(hmmm. Yuletide request time???)

I'm afraid I must cancel my order, as the image of Ron Jeremy has scared me to the point where I am seriously considering becoming a nun and taking up smarm as a full-time occupation.

PLEASE DO NOT BE SEXING UP WOLVERINE. I'm still all traumatized by collecting Marvel comics in the days when Wolverine appeared on the cover of every comic book published, I think maybe by federal law or something.

I ... would not read that. Which is strange, because usually I'll ship Methos with anyone or anything. But for some reason I can do bestiality, but my mind always fails at trying to visualize anthro. (especially anthro/human.) (especially with Disney characters.)

...Also, I have never considered this before, but I do believe I'm a Scrooge/Goldie OPTer.

Really, all you need to know is that the boys were originally bank robbers named Kid Curry and Hannibal Heyes. They never hurt anyone (naturally - they're good bad boys;)and they asked the governor for amnesty via an amnesty program with the help of a their old pal Sheriff Lom Trevors (or something close to that - the brain she is weak).

The Governor tells Heyes and Curry if they can keep their noses clean for a year to prove themselves, he'll give them amnesty. In the meantime for all intents and purposes, they're still wanted.

If you want any more recs when you're done, well, I'm here:) Hope you find something you enjoy!

My recs aren't necessarily older stories, by the way - they're for older fandoms, which is what I had understood you to ask for initially.

You are a wicked, wicked temptress.

OMG. It's the perfect summary of every anti-slash argument ever! Plus a bonus ep-by-ep list of all the points slashers would find slashy, with the querulous remark that, really, there's no ACTUAL SEX in here, so why would people imagine that there IS? Or even want to imagine that there is? Pervs.

Have rummaged. Alas, the last set of Eroica back in the imported untagged depths of my bookmarks. Which means I have to go back add tags, which takes forever because of course I have to re-read every story to get the tags right. :D I *will* get to it, if only in hopes that if we get you into Eroica you'll uncover some I haven't read yet! but it will be awhile.

Meanwhile, I second the rec for belladonna.org/eroica for good oldfic. Beth Minster and Kat Benedict are good for more gennish longfic. Kadorienne has a lot of good old-school slash.

I beg to differ. Lawyers are HOT. And, come on, you can't tell me torts aren't sexy. Plus, the terminology is totally hot: I mean, tortfeasor sounds like someone with a very specialized kink. ("Um, you know, before you date Jamie, maybe you should know - um. She's a tortfeasor. I mean, she's gorgeous and all, but if you're not into that, it's just not going to work, so...")

My theory is that BL has very little fandom because there's nothing slashers can do that they haven't done in canon, except the actual sex. And Alan and Denny are not .. conventionally attractive, so nobody's pining for the actual sex.

(Although there was a really neat episode last season where they had an old case from Denny's past coming back to haunt him, and sliced in footage from a legal drama that Shatner was in, pre-Star Trek, for the Young!Denny flashbacks. He was kind of hot back then.

...also, the reason the old case was brought back is that one of the original witnesses was lying on the stand because he was with his male lover, not because he was actually involved in the crime. They have now *canonically*, and with official permission, slashed '60s television. The writers seem to exist just to taunt us.)

Also, [livejournal.com profile] stellar_dust has an Alan/Denny fantrailer of awesome, but youtube just made her take it down. You can get it from her website right-click save here (http://www.katycat.net/bostonlegal/BLclipreel_r2.wmv), only her website has died. In, like, the last two hours. I shall have to poke her.

Not telling the fandom! It's a secret. Because I am basically evil.

Although, really, I am impressed by how not revealing the gold eyes are. You'd think it would have winnowed the field, and I guess it did, but only by a couple of fandoms where both halves of the OTP have blue eyes. (In which case they aren't color changing green/gold/hazel/brown eyes, they're cerulean orbs. And searing sapphire lenses. And such.)

Also, new to commenting. Um, hi!

Hi! And thank you for commenting. It makes me very happy to know I have company in my gold eyes phobia.

this is what you do when you're in love with your THLP, forswear sex and cleave only unto him, but in a straight and manly way

Dear God, I think I've read this story. (Well, not that story. But the trope is familiar to me.) I don't get it either.

Although -- I do remember reading a Sports Night story where Dan was totally in love with Casey (not at all different from canon, right?) and horribly jealous when Casey found himself a boyfriend, and convinced himself that that meant that he should hook up with Casey and they'd live happily ever after -- except that this Dan really was straight, and it did not end well. It was a good story, well written. Sad. Anyway, unlike those gen/stealth!slash stories, this story actually went there. So it made a lot more sense to me.

I can't remember either the title or the author. Damn it!

Older gen recs. Hmm.

Here are two from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Both are by Yahtzee. Neither of these links worked in Firefox, but they both worked fine in Internet Explorer: go figure.

Phoenix Burning (http://www.thechicagoloop.net/yahtzee/insect/insectfic/PhoenixIndex.htm), an awesome post-apocalyptic AU that branches off from canon after "The Gift". Buffy gets resurrected several hundred years in the future by the council along with several other slayers to help fight the vampire horde! It's novel-length and really, really good.

Acid Test (http://www.thechicagoloop.net/yahtzee/insect/insectfic/AcidTest.htm). Xander gets disconnected in time and goes on a long, strange trip. Also very cool and very good.

And a Sentinel gen story by Lanning Cook:

Ministers of Grace (http://lanning.slashdom.net/stories/minister.htm). Jim deals with his issues with Naomi, and Blair meets Jim's mother, Grace. There's lots of cool, plotty stuff about Sentinels and so on...excellent story.

I also have a bunch of slash recs for Quantum Leap, if you want them.

Unfortunately, the entire ration of sexy in Boston Legal is pretty much used up by Shirley Schmidt, the lawyer who's in charge of the whole thing (and Paul Lewiston, who is Odo. Shirley is played by an amazingly well-matured Candace Bergen who is Alan and Denny's unattainable sex object and who completely rules and is hott like burning.

This is not just my opinion; it's objective fact.
