if sadness helps you feel better

This is one creepy turn of phrase. It doesn't help me feel better. It helps me feel not left out in my woe, feel fortified to make some decisions and move my lazy ass. If it's kind of fic that makes reader sob for an hour it's even better, therapeutically speaking. Catharsis invariably cleanses mind, induces tears that might not have come without the trigger. I don't know if it's sad that I find my therapy in fiction, be it fan or non-fan. It's definitely cheaper.

You know looked up angst in dictionary, and was surprized at what I found. I always thought that its meaning was exactly pain and sadness, but it turned out to be fear, anxiety, worry. I suppose angst as a genre is something similar. Lost in translation.
