Don't listen to them about Enterprise! It's the latest of the TV series and it...had some good bits. I got into the fandom by reading the novels (not much TV out in the wilds of Australia, and we didn't have a VCR) so when I actually saw the show after reading 70+ books, it was quite a surprise, especially the sexism!
