gah, argh. I started to read this post (and track back to the earlier ones you linked to) at home this morning, but at work I can only read DW, not LJ. I had started on the shocking! moments in fandom one. Did anyone mention the Horsemen episodes of Highlander? When we learn that Methos is really, really NOT Adam Pierson? I literally SCREAMED, making handwavy motions at the tv screen. Also, the final episode of Forever Knight. Which prompted me to immediately write a fix-it fic. And I had never seen fanfic. Didn't know it existed. I invented it, right there and then, out of need. The episode Had To Be Fixed. Later I found out, that yes, um, people do this. *g*
The shocking moments in fandom one was SO AWESOME; it would make my top ten favorite posts of all time.
It's so funny to me to think of people learning that Methos was, you know, death on a horse, because of course that was one of the first things I learned about him (and for years I was confused about who Adam Pierson even was). But now I can see it must totally have been a shock!
And what happened at the end of Forever Knight? (I have seen basically no TV ever, but I liked being spoiled for everything, since there is almost no chance I will ever watch it.) I always love hearing what drove people, reeling, into the comforting arms of fan fiction. *g*
The main character, Nick, asks Lacroix, his vampire maker, to kill him. And after eloquently arguing for continued existence all the way through the ep, Lacroix, in the last moments of the series, does it.
This. Was. Wrong. It went against everything the series had been about, about Nick's search for redemption, as well as his slow movement into a kind of rapprochement with both Lacroix and his own dark side in an integrated, rather than reactive way.
