Yes, yes to all of this! As an avid reader, I've felt the same invisibility, and I hated how I was forced to identify myself with male characters because there were no females ones. I believe one of the reasons why I used read comics as a teenager was that there were lots of strong female protagonists there. Yes, there still were a lot of sexism going on, but WOMEN! \o/ As protagonists! So, yes, I totally agree with you, except that I never would have been able to express it myself in an articulate way, so thank you! :D
