From what I've figured the trick with that is to either have a really cheap plastic one that it doesn't hurt to replace every now and then when the mold starts to become bad, or to invest once in an expensive one that can tolerate machine washing. (I tried the machine washing once with a cheap plastic one, but it frayed in tears at the bottom, but the mold was gone.)
