Pretty sure what killing_rose means is that, in the original series of Battlestar Galactica, Starbuck was a guy. When they rebooted the show, changing aaaallllll kinds of stuff, they genderswapped the character. (There were a lot of grumpy old school fans, and the actor who played Starbuck mk. 1 wrote this misogynistic BAWWWWWW of an essay about how wrong it was to have a girl smoking cigars, etc. Has to be read to be believed.)

The new series does have multiple female characters who are pilots. Including the seriously gorgeous Korean one, who is, um, actually two characters. Well, two major characters and a lot of other copies. It's, uh, probably a little difficult to figure out in vids.
