Methos and Duncan are AWESOME together. And Methos is (to my understanding) very much "...that sounds like WORK." His speech in, I think it is, Chivalry is totally to that effect, plus some. I love him dearly.
However! If you are interested in Highlander, I would point you to this post by Killa, who is a goddess of Highlander. Methos is not a character in the early seasons, and my understanding is that the canon is REALLY all over the place in terms of quality, so I would take her advice in terms of watching. She knows whereof she speaks! And her HL vids are INCREDIBLE.
(I, of course, have not actually seen an entire Smallville episode, but my understanding is that you kind of have to watch that for the slash and the Lex and Lionel and Chloe and maybe Clark, and let certain things, like your sanity, go, especially in the later seasons.)
