You can also put down a ring of sand, as they don't like to slide over rough surfaces. Or possibly you could try using sheets of sandpaper? Not sure if that's feasible with your setup.

Rings of salt and coffee (which contains caffeine; no decaf) also work, but are certainly not rainproof.
