SF mystery is something that's hard to do and, in my opinion, totally worth doing (All the time! Everywhere!)
There's an actual Trek spin-off novel called The Case of the Colonist's Corpse, which is the story of how Kirk's lawyer from "Court Martial" was the first Federation lawyer to act for the defense of a Klingon, and the whole thing is one big Perry Mason homage. Also, one of the authors is an actual lawyer who has blogged about fictional depictions of the justice system, so the actual law stuff is pretty solid too.
