The particular article I was responding to this one, which was recommended to me as being a better solution than the NRA's, for reasons I'm still not clear on. And that article is definitely "when everyone has a gun, that's the safest we can possibly be!" (It's also a painful wad of unsourced, unsupported claims, not to mention a healthy dollup of mansplaining. As I said to the friend who linked me there: this is very informative, but not the way you meant. It's not helping.)

And of course it's ridiculous to me, the idea that what we have now is the minimum number of guns we have to have available, and all future policies must work with that. The way other countries did this is to REDUCE the number of guns in civilian hands. That seems to have worked pretty well. For all of them.
