I think the overabundant pregnancy question must be an US thing. I don't think I have ever been asked except briefly by xray technicians and when I was admitted to hospital for an eye OP, they had a long form about allergies and preexisting conditions for the anesthesia and such and it was probably in there somewhere.
But my GP has never asked about my sex life at all that I remember when I go for a checkup (maybe they just aren't as thorough as in the US). And when I went to my GP for repeatedly fainting he didn't do any pregnancy tests either, unless it was hidden in the bloodwork somewhere I didn't recognize, but I don't think so.
