*crap* accidentally pressed post reply before I meant to

People who are very deep into the fandoms they vid tend to choose shots that have great meaning - provided you're intimate with the canon.

Oh yes, definitely. My last Queer as Folk vid was incredibly contextual. But then, I knew I was vidding for people who were hardcore fans, and not to try to indoctrinate people into the fandom.

One of my absolute favorite vids is Gwyn R's "Valentine Heart" and it bugs me that I can't really share it with anyone because unless you know the Wesley/Lilah canon really well the vid makes no sense.

I think the difference is really purpose, more than unfamiliarity. I knew the significance of all the scenes I chose. However, I didn't choose them based on their significance because for me, this vid not about the fandom. It was about the song. I chose shots that looked good and shots with motion that accentuated the beat the way I wanted. I chose shots that looked dramatic for more dramatic parts of the song. I didn't become a huge Oz fan after I made this, but I did become a huge VAST fan.

(Although it is almost criminally unfair that you aren't reading Ozfic. Your viewers certainly are.)

No way I could take that much angst on a regular basis. I need my happy ending, thankyou. Also, when I made this vid I was so deeply entrenched in the Queer as Folk fandom that no way was I leaving it for Oz.

I have read some Ozfic. But then, I've read some fic in just about every fandom you could name and a few you couldn't.
