Yes, yes, yes! So very yes to the necessity of lube, the weirdness of married virgins, and emotions akin to terror, in particular. Seriously - there are people out there who believe they can realistically portray Chris Keller as a virgin, after 3 wives and however many stints in prison? Really? I'm now insanely curious. Got links?

And while I agree bruising is overused in general (especially in PotC & HP), bruising & soreness isn't exactly unheard of in sex. I bruise, & as far as I know I have no medical conditions. TMI, I know, but if I'm on my knees for 10 minutes on a hard surface, there will be bruises. Actually, I learnt that doing nightfill at a supermarket. And it's not really a sexy reminder of a night of passion, it's just irritating.

There's also a second major exception to the bruises thing, & that'd be BtVS. Buffy/Spike tore a house down. I figure there'd be bruises. Plus, it has the canonical phrase, "Spike! You're all covered in sexy bruises!" And the Faith/Wesley bruise fetish thing is pretty much canon too. Faith/Angelus as well, for that matter. In fact, bruises and Faith seem to signify an OTP of sorts. When she talks to Robin and says that her favourite bruise was the one from Buffy, that's pretty significant. I would have no problem with a story exploring her (fucked up) belief that you're always hurt by the ones you love.

Fight Club, Secretary and X-Men I'd also completely believe, if done properly. I think it just depends on whether the bruises are written in as pretty accessories or if it fits in with violent/super-strong character issues. And if they're actually written as pretty accessories that symbolise passion and devotion, which is both inane and insane.
