I haven't even seen Conversion yet, and my Weir-status is approaching critical. No, make that "highly critical."

I have to say that I did not understand why Weir fans did not rise up in arms at her treatment in 'Conversion': under the guise of providing lots of Weir/Sheppard moments, she was literally savaged. At least that's the way I saw it. She looked ridiculous and halfway between pitiable and laughable.

Granted, the SGA writers do not seem to like or respect her very much, but there are limits and I find it hard to dislike a strong female character. But SGA manages this feat: Weir is not portrayed as strong IMHO, she is portrayed as bitchy and temperamental and far too inclined to let her obvious crush on Sheppard influence her decisions. It's gotten to the point where each time she confronts Caldwell, I feel like telling him to give her a swift kick in the pants just for her own good...

And this is not my slash tendencies speaking: I have no problem with Sheppard/Teyla or any other het pairing.

Regarding shalott, I know I am biaised -good writing has that effect on me- but even if I do understand how some of her stories may or may not tickle everyone's fancy, 'Transcendental' focuses on an aspect of SGA which I feel is at the heart of what I like about it, namely McKay and Sheppard's inner little boy side: what is commonly referred to as their snarky/dorky dialogue to me is a symptom of the fact that they are both overgrown little boys.

This is why their actions and reasoning so often seem to come straight out of a video game and in 'Transcendental', most of their tactics with the Genii exemplify this on a grand scale.

And this is part of what I love about SGA: Sheppard and McKay are not classic heroic types and when Sheppard tries the straightforward bit, he simply ends up looking like an idiot.

Still, one of the qualities of shalott's stories is that they are very enjoyable to re-read too (good writing... *dreamy sigh too*)

Oh and I do agree with you regarding 'A Beautiful Lifetime Event', BTW: I love it to bits, but I would not put it in an introductory list either. Too... er. I mean... Mm. For established fans only!

:)

Another story I would love to include would be Leah's penguin fic: but the PegB background makes it difficult to use as a pimping fic (and this was why Karen's version was so, so useful! Argh. Don't get me started... )
