Yes, exactly. If someone says "I usually don't like X but" that is, frankly, the highest compliment to me and means much more than praise from someone who was already predisposed to like it because it's their favorite fandom/pairing/kink/etc. (Talking about fic in my case, but the same would apply if I did vids.)
