Cathedrals of the Flesh: My Search for the Perfect Bath by Alexia Brue
*dies laughing*
This is the perfect book for me. Seriously. Best Beloved, too, for that matter. I'm buying this one now.
Emotional Design by Donald Norman
This one sounds fabulous, as does his earlier design book.
Metamagical Themas by Douglas Hofstadter
Oh, god, Hofstadter is the king of - of pretty much everything, really. And it's so cool to see one of his books that isn't Godel, Escher, Bach getting recommended!
This reminds me that I must go purchase a copy of this for my very own. How can I not already own this book?
Swimming to Antarctica by Lynne Cox
Ooo, I've been wanting to read this.
Garlic and Sapphires by Ruth Reichl
And I had never heard of this one at all, but it sounds wonderful. (I adore food writing, but it's hard to get recs for it, so I end up finding stuff by happenstance; the latest really good one I found was The Man Who Ate Everything, and that was a while ago.)
Encyclopedia of an Ordinary Life by Amy Krouse Rosenthal
Yet another one that sounds fabulous and is totally new to me.
The Power of Babel by John McWhorter
I've been meaning to read this one for a while, too.
The Wilder Shores of Love by Lesley Branch
Oh my god. Okay, I feel like an idiot. I saw this on someone else's Best Books Read in [Year Whatever] list, and I didn't even bother to look because I was sure it was a romance novel. And actually it is exactly the sort of thing I would love.
Thank you for saving me from my own stupidity on this one.
Playing the Moldovans at Tennis by Tony Hawks
This one I've read. Hawks is such a fun light read - his books are like travel candy.
Thank you for this whole seriously excellent list, and feel free to pimp to me anytime. (If you like, I will even pimp back. You've no idea how hard I was biting me tongue not to do the whole, "If you like this, then have you read...?" thing here.)
