This is fascinating to me, because I'm currently getting into anime and manga fan fiction in a big way, and I'm finding it difficult. Also kind of terrifying, in that I don't have a lot of strategies for finding the best stuff yet, and it's obvious that conventions are very different at every level, from culture to writing styles. In fact, I've been hesitant to talk to anyone who is only a anime/manga person, let alone join communities (on LJ; I'm sure there's a bunch of stuff off LJ, too, but I haven't even found that), because the culture is so different.
And it took me a year or more to get comfortable watching AMVs, and I still know almost nothing about yaoi/shonen-ai AMVs - they're hard to find on amv.org, especially for non-yaoi/shonen-ai series.
So, my question: if you think we need anime-media buddies, do you want to be mine? Because I think that's an excellent idea, and I'm curious to see how it would work. We might even be able to put together a FAQ or two on the subject (The Biggest Crossover: Anime/Manga to Media, Media to Anime/Manga). If you're willing, email me (thefourthvine at livejournal dot com).
