But, no. Heinlein was wrong about many things, but he was dead on about the meaning of lummox. What he didn't mention was that most people consider it to be a verging-on-archaic word (like oaf and cad, two other ones - and they are just tiny, so it's almost like not using a word at all - I like a lot that tend to get the "ahahaha what did you just say?" reaction). Now, my feeling is that we should use this word a lot more often and get it off the endangered list. (You should write a story! Called "Lummox"!) But most people appear to feel that it is best to let aged words die a natural death.
