The original is a punk rock sort of thing by the Dead Kennedys (I didn't know this, because I suck at musical history, but Lum told me *g*), and this version is sexy and light - Nouvelle Vague is a wonderful French band who specialize in very different, danceable, bossanova style covers of new wave songs.
There's no mention of either gender in the song, but the lyric:
'Went to a party/I danced all night/I drank sixteen beers and started out a fight/So now I'm jaded/You're out of luck/I'm rolling down the stairs too drunk to fuck'
sounds different when sung by a cheerful French gal. :-)
