I've had pretty much that same conversation over the shades of grey they keep insisting on putting in Xavier and how he really does have to be good. (Especially if they want us to believe that not every government agency in the world wants him dead or incapacitated.) Because, yes. He could pretty much break the world if he thought he had to, even though he's apparently not the strongest telepath in existence, because he can read and influence everyone's mind and has the trust of a bunch of powerful children who he's trained for combat. Even if he is the whitest-minded good guy ever, he's a scary dude. And whenever anyone talks about unstable, ever-more-powerful Jean being a better telepath than he is, I shudder.
Anyway, hasn't Jean been in her 20s for, like, four decades? I'm not surprised that she hasn't managed self-awareness. :D
Xavier lives in a mansion filled with teenagers. I'm surprised he doesn't wear the metal hat. I think the proof that the guy is batshit insane is that, instead of shutting himself away from the world and their thoughts, he makes a special metal hat to find more kids who're just hitting a traumatic puberty.
