pardon my meta.

This is *beautiful*. Add another vote for wanting to read the rest of it!

Also, I was planning to spend tomorrow working on a (very bad, probably) vid - my fipst in three years - and now I'm going to be trying to find all of the little subtle themes in the music I can bring out. (But the music is "it's a small world", so I DON'T KNOW XD )

Anyway, I am very interested in the different ways you and I respond to vids. Because when you talk about your TV experiences and inability to recognize people, it all sounds very familiar, and it took me a long time to "get" the vids that everybody gets excited about. (The one-note joke vids, constructed reality vids, and 'shipper vids, fine, but the not the *good* ones.)

But I seem to read vids the *opposite* way from the way you do. Like, all the vids here that you talked about as "emotional" vids - where you turned your brain off and went squee? Those are the ones that I think about and overanalyze if I want to enjoy them. Whereas the ones you say you have to analyze, I only get anything out of them if I sit back, turn off my brain, and let the music wash over me. (Then I usually tear up.) I don't know if this just means I can't read them as well as you can yet and I can't get the subtleties (emotional or intellectual) or what, but it's odd.

And I just watched the HP vid you rec'ced here, expecting to read it the same way you did, 'cause your interpretation of the vid is my interpretation of HP as a whole, and yet I found myself reading it as a Snape vid. I *think* this might be because of the way I learned to watch vids - I learned (and I have no idea where, but probably on some "how to vid" tutorial) that if you're starting to lose your focus in a vid, you need to pick a POV character and put the vid in their POV. And that vid starts with enough Snape that I subconsciously pick him as my POV, and whenever I start to lose the thread of the vid, just enough Snape comes back in to anchor me back to him.

But I get the impression that a) that's not how you learned to watch vids at all, and b) the leading edge of vidding is moving away from strict POV anyway. Which is probably good, 'cause in some ways that POV acts as training wheels. (But man, do I need those training wheels sometimes.)

Anyway, this is all lead-up to the important bit, which was: Do you know that people have been posting vids lately with convenient pop-up labels? They aren't coming out of the ... high-class end of vidding, and I get the distinct impression that they didn't come out of our sort of fanculture at all (I see them on youtube and they often get labelled "mashups"). (See And the Children Shall Lead. And this Buffy one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8plwke8cI_o) is the first one I saw getting linked, and I get the impression that it's a fanvid that someone else stole, and put pop-ups on top of, although maybe not, since I can't for the life of me find the original ...
