Yuletide

Does anyone happen to know if there's a spreadsheet or whatever of all the Yuletide fandoms floating around yet? I usually use one that someone else makes to winnow down my offers (I own my laziness), but I can't remember who made them the last few years, and I don't want to post on the Yuletide comm to ask. (Because it seems like anything could happen. It's been a wild and crazy year over there, and that's before signups. By December, I predict there will be cannibalism and word riots on the Yuletide comm. You heard it here first!)

I think it's shusu who usually does it. I think c&p on the web page and a little text-to-table and cleanup might do the trick too...

Smart, though, I never thought of using that to pre-winnow. I just winnow as I sign up, and you saw where THAT got me...

I have it as a text file with each fandom on a single line, if you want that. You could open it in a spreadsheet program, no problem.

I have a rec for you, and don't worry, Spock has a pivotal role (and is perfect!) You're Gonna Make It After All is the ultimate Gaila characterization, ever. Also hilarious and touching by turns.

Can we start the cannibalism early?

Also, I'd bet any amount of money that you get more useful answers from posting here than from posting to the comm right now.

(More useful than this comment, hopefully.)

[identity profile] thefourthvine.livejournal.com 2009-11-05 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
I run on a strict no-cannibalism policy. No cannibalism for you, missy! (Okay. Maybe a little cannibalism, but only if everyone says sorry afterward.)

I am left with the vague feeling that you are hopeful towards cannibalism. hmm.

it sounds like the kind of thing I'd do if I were into yultide, which, sadly, I'm not, so. good luck!

[identity profile] thefourthvine.livejournal.com 2009-11-05 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
No, no, I definitely do not want cannibalism. I am not that kind of girl!

And someday we will convert you to our Yuletide ways. (In the meantime, um, I hope hearing about it for three months doesn't embitter you and make you cast a surprisingly successful curse on fandom which you later regret when all the posts on your friends list for three days say "ribbit ribbit ribbit ribbit.")

Aww.

I'm currently sinking my toes into the madness that is NaNo, so. (Flying giant steampunk library! skymetal creatures! human sacrifice! yay!) If I did Yuletide, I'd sign up for, like, Temeraire, HikaGo, Mulan, and Tamora Pierce. and then feel like an unforgivable Girl. But I also have exams for half of December, so the timing's a bit squished, alas.

[identity profile] dormouse-in-tea.livejournal.com 2009-11-05 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
. . . are you one of those who post their nano in a journal as they go, possibly? Because that's FASCINATING.

Yup! well, mostly to not lose it. but I'd be willing to shoot you a link if you want to have a look? (partly because I want to marry your icon OMG CUTE)

eeee! thank you for the icon compliment.

And yes, I would love to have a link, because it sounds so much like something I would adore reading!

Damn, I didn't save my spreadsheet before I started deleting stuff, so I'm no help to you. :(

(and OMG WORD on the comm. hold me!)

[identity profile] thefourthvine.livejournal.com 2009-11-05 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
I feel weird having to say this to an accountant, but: ALWAYS SAVE THE SPREADSHEET. Don't they teach that in accountancy school, along with #2 pencil dueling and the famed integer dance?

*holds you tight*

I can hook you up with a comma-delimited text file with about 50 extra fandoms on it (was done on Monday when all the changes weren't completed)...

Eeee! Thank you. I have downloaded it.

[identity profile] lilacsigil.livejournal.com 2009-11-05 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
I just copied the list of fandoms straight into an Excel spreadsheet, removed "the" and alphabetised into one long column. I could send that if it would be any help?

[identity profile] thefourthvine.livejournal.com 2009-11-05 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
That would be perfectly awesome! Thank you.

[identity profile] lilacsigil.livejournal.com 2009-11-07 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
Um, you may not have had time to look at the file yet, but I'm not sure I uploaded the complete list. This is the complete list (http://www.box.net/shared/q8byfgjldn) - it might be the same file! It might not be! Cannibalism! Horror!

[identity profile] laura47.livejournal.com 2009-11-05 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
this is my first year of yuletide, so i assumed everything was normal? i don't like cannibalism! I didn't know this was wild crazy?

[identity profile] thefourthvine.livejournal.com 2009-11-05 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
Don't worry! You don't have to be part of the cannibalism if you don't want to. In Yuletide, no one is required to eat anyone else. It's just that the chat community has gotten a wee bit hairier than usual, which I am trying to attribute to excess Yuletide spirit. I am actually hoping things will calm down now that sign ups are open and people have a proper outlet for their panicsquee.

[identity profile] adina-atl.livejournal.com 2009-11-05 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"Panicsquee" is an awesomely appropriate word, for more than just Yuletide.

[identity profile] travels-in-time.livejournal.com 2009-11-05 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
Er...the hopeful eyes are anticipating the word riots, yes, and not the cannibalism? I hope?

Actually, word riots sound like fun. How would one start a word riot?

Ask "Do you pronounce 'skein' SKEEN or SKANE?" on Ravelry.

Yeesh!
ext_2248: (demolition)

[identity profile] macey-muse.livejournal.com 2009-11-05 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, that word looks remarkably germanic in origin, in which case the emphasis should be placed on the second vowel, namely, 'i', making SKINE the legitimate -

According to all the dictionaries, "skane" is the only correct pronunciation.

Like rein, lo mein, neigh.

And believe me, that argument was brought out, too! *g*

"I before E, except after C and whe pronounced "Ay" like in neighbour or weigh."

Or skein, but that doesn't rhyme. Oh English, why so wacky?

Vocabulary venereal disease.

That's what happens when you get into bed with any other language you can get your hands on.

And never forget, "weird" is just weird.

[identity profile] travels-in-time.livejournal.com 2009-11-05 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
I don't go on Ravelry. I've heard scary things about those people and their knitting needles. *shudders*

I've heard "scan", actually. How would you pronounce it? I wouldn't. I'd say "a thing of yarn". But I've always been curious.

OMG, yes, I don't know what the heck is going on in that comm this year. So much hysteria!

Boo, I just checked and one of my fandoms (RPF - Food Network) has disappeared! Booooooooooooooo!

Maybe I should go be angry in the comm? :)
