[Poll] Check One

Internets! I am still compiling the Woobie Poll of Dooooooooom, but in the meantime, here is a PRESSING QUESTION that came up today while I was (yay!) visiting with [personal profile] norah. Plus some other pressing questions, because why have one forced choice when you can have five?

So. For the rest of your life, you can only have one of each of the following pairs. Which will it be? Which is the ONLY ONE YOU CAN HAVE FOREVER? (If you already live without one or more of these, then obviously your choice is easier. Like, I will have no trouble at all with question three, but question one might kill me.)

I am also taking suggestions for future horrible forced choices. I would like to find the hardest forced choice in all the land. (That isn't, you know, of great weight or import. No Sophie's Choices.)

Poll #2389 Choose Wisely

ahahaha, I love everyone's priorities! ecause as of this moment, everyone has voted for chocolate over coffee, and sex over sweets. (Because there are other vehicles for caffeine, like tea! And as for sex, well, duh. Also I'd already chosen fat over sugar.)

*puzzled* by the time I posted the above comment, the poll had been updated, and in this brave new world there are people who would give up chocolate for coffee, and sex for sweets.

I would be a very sad Lucy if I had to give up chocolate. However, I have a headache right now. Chocolate makes my headaches worse, and coffee makes them better.

Ooof. As someone who gets completely rotten headaches, I sympathize. Anything that makes headaches better is a priority!

Not everyone enjoys sex as much as a good piece of cake. ;)

oh, I didn't mean to disparage anyone's choices! If the question had instead been "Sex or spices in your food," that would have been terrible for me. I mean - sex! *flail* But otoh, spicy things! *more flail* Oh my God, I am actually sort of miserable just thinking about it, and it's not like some eldritch creature with a rotten sense of humor is actually going to make me pick, you know?

Sex is awesome, but there is NOTHING as awesome as a good dessert. Giving up sex would probably also make it hellishly hard to find a good relationship, though, and i guess I would rather be pudding-less than lonely.

I would miss pudding very much. But I am assuming sweets does not include fruit - so, okay, I would have a week of mourning entirely devoted to tiramisu, but I would live. But sex vs spices in my food? OH GOD.

also "I would rather be pudding-less than lonely" is the Quote of the Weekend.

Stranger here: asexual. *g* Assuming sex doesn't include "cuddling and having my hair petted", I could HAPPILY even get married, but giving up deserts would be TRAGIC.

Also, I have heard of people who don't like chocolate.

I should have been more careful with my phrasing - it was supposed to be cheerful and silly, but instead sounds uncomfortably dismissive about other people's choices/circumstances which influence such choices! Which I did not intend, and I apologize for the wordfail on my part.

also you bring up an interesting point. what if the choice was cuddles vs [whatever]? or touching (other people) vs [whatever]? I am a cuddle-fiend, and would find it intolerable within the week...but for the longterm, given that babies who don't experience enough touch have 'failure to thrive,' what would happen to adults?

Depends on the adults, I would suppose - I'm also ASD, so in my normal day-to-day life I, um, avoid physical contact as much as possible. I reserve cuddles mostly because when I'm very emotionally close to someone, that aversion goes away - I'm single right now, but if I were to be in love again I would be the biggest cuddle-fiend for my partner you've ever SEEN. And as it stands right now, with my family, including my high-functioning-autistic sibling and my other younger sister, I am pretty tactile as it is.

But I think for NT people the tactile thing is a much bigger deal.

*g* Like you, I don't drink coffee, so it was easy to choose chocolate. But I don't eat much of that, either; just once in a while.

OTOH, I couldn't choose between fat and sugar. My munching swings between them; without the contrast, either would pall very quickly.

There have been times in my life when I would have chosen sweets. But, well, ever since I figured out sex, I have come to the realization that, for me, sex comes before everything except books and someone else's well-being. Possibly there are other things but I haven't been able to think of them.

I suspect the chocolate vs coffee was so easy partly because I've rarely had anything besides dorm coffee, which is acceptable but not incredible. But I've had truly incredible chocolate! I know what I'd miss! Also, there are other vehicles for caffeine (without which I would be a very very sad Dhara, also a very sleepy and headachey one).
