I'm reading a book that, well, it's good, but I'm getting that feeling I sometimes get, the sneaking suspicion that I am reading not essays but anthropology. Or xenology. My point is, the person who wrote this book is not like me. I'm pretty sure we're members of entirely different species, in fact.

And she keeps saying she talked to all her friends, and they all agree, and my basic thought there is, hey, maybe you should make some more friends. A social circle is more entertaining when you don't agree on everything.

Then it occurred to me that I should maybe check out her points of universal agreement with my friends (and acquaintances and people randomly browsing friends friends who are yearning to click on some buttons). So. A poll. Help me out, here, people, I am really truly curious.

Re the 'How much I've accomplished' - I went for 'haven't accomplished yet', but mostly I wanted an answer that said, "I have big hopes and dreams... I just don't know what they are yet. (Tho, I don't think I've accomplished them yet. (Or at least, I hope I haven't...))"

I rather feel that answer, personally.

I had a decade-long career that was pretty satisfying, but -- I'm home with a child now -- I don't ever want to go back to it. I'm done with it.

So now I'm figuring out what I want to do after my child-or-children aren't taking up the space shaped like a full-time job. I have hopes and dreams...but I'm not sure what they are yet.

See, I couldn't get into the details of that question, because the whole concept of life goals is kind of foreign to me. I am married to someone who is profoundly goal-oriented, which is probably good, because I just do not function like that at all. So, sorry! I knew I would miss some people's desired answers on that question.

See, I think that's partly my problem. I know that when I get to the end of my life I want to have Done Stuff. But right now, with that life in front of me, I have no idea what I want that Stuff to be, aside from the generic, be happy and not hate my job. (And an implausible, "be rich enough so that I can spend all my time reading instead of working".) But actual, honest to god goals? Haven't a clue.

And as you might imagine, this makes Annual Review and Personal Development Plan stuff in at work absolute hell.

Me: Not having been driven crazy by people being wrong on the internet?

I go through phases of this causing me concern. I want to have Goals and Ambitions and Do Stuff and Achieve. I just don't know what exactly...
