Learning to Vid by Word of Mouth

SO. Let us say there is a person who lives in Colorado who really really wants to learn to vid. (This person is not me. I do not live in Colorado.) How - how does this person go about this? Are there Colorado-based vidders who can mentor? Someone who does email or chat support for newbies? Online resources that are helpful? What takes a person from Not Vidding to Vidding? (I really want her to learn to vid because, um, she's going to make a vid I want to see. Look, a lot of fandom is enlightened self-interest, okay?)

All suggestions welcome!

I've been doing some video tutorials for newbie vidders, and have made several posts about process! http://thingswithwings.dreamwidth.org/tag/vidding (the video tutorials are access-locked, but I can grant your pal access or provide them with direct youtube links if needed.) I'd also recommend the LJ comm called vidding, the DW comm of the same name (vidding) and if they're on a mac, definitely check out mac_vidding_101.

I am not on a Mac unless iPad counts, I am a very entrenched PC girl. Does that make things significantly harder on me?

It ttly does not make things any harder! Just that my advice comes out of my Mac experience, so not everything will translate. I'd recommend the tutorials on workflow and aspect ratio anyhow, since there's lots of PC-applicable advice in there. But if you have any questions you should ttly ask! If I don't know, I'll ask my PC-vidding buddy for you. :)

Also she should check my "vidding" tag, especially pre-2007 or so. I wrote a lot of creative how-to stuff.

Help is still needed, and you were actually the first person I thought of, because of CONSUMMATE VIDDING SKILL *and* scenic Colorado location. I am - not sure where in the state she lives? I tweeted her to ask, though. (Are you on Twitter?)

Also, I assume by your icon and mention of youtube and stills that you are planning on vidding hockey?
