Do I really need to explain the meme that started this? I do? OK, you can find it here, along with a bunch of memoried wish lists from around fandom.



My List

1. Anything from my list of bunnies or involving my bullet-proof kinks.
   
   
2. Anything from my Amazon wish list.
   
   
3. A gift of graphics - a custom LJ layout, for example, or an icon, anything along those lines - from someone more visually talented than I am. Which is everyone. I especially wish for graphics things that aren't built around actors or faces. Some things I like that might make good graphics fodder: wombats, dogs, and fish. Astronomy, molecules, and fractals. Sex, smut, and erotica. Old prints, maps, and illustrated manuscripts. Books, words, and grammar. Shades of gray, earth tones, and dark, murky colors.
   
   
4. A donation to Labmed, to help rescued Labrador Retrievers get medical care so they can be adopted. You can make it in your name, in mine ("thefourthvine" is find), or - and this is what I would like best - on behalf of any dog you've loved, Lab or otherwise.
   
   
5. A donation to the Malibu Public Library or any other public library, specifically for the materials budget. This year especially, libraries are in desperate need of money for books, magazines, DVDs, and other materials, and MPL is no exception; MPL is in a wealthy area, but the library itself isn't wealthy. Even small donations translate into books that will be read many times, by all kinds of people.
   
   
6. An extension of my LJ paid user time or pictures.
   
   
7. Slash for the book I, Robot (Powell/Donovan), the movie The Sting (Hooker/Gondorff), the comic book Planetary (Elijah Snow/The Drummer), or the Nero Wolfe series (Panzer/Goodwin). Yes, I hope to be getting one of those for Yuletide, but these are my dream rare fandoms, so I thought I'd mention them again. Know of any stories that already exist for those pairings? Please, please tell me.
   
   
8. Socks. Because I love socks. I have two drawers full, and yet I covet more socks. I have a sock fixation.
   
   
9. Queen-sized sheets and standard pillowcases that are really, really soft. This may actually be an impossible wish - I never seem to be able to find sheets that are truly soft and inviting and comfy - but the whole point of this list is that dreams can come true, right? And I often dream of perfect sheets, so I'm putting it here.
   
   
10. A package sent to me in the mail. It could contain strange local items, mutant (meatless, because I have Meat Issues) foods, a random collection of crap you found around your house, a bunch of CDs you burned for me, stuff from your favorite fandom, wind-up penises and pornographic stationery, whatever. I just like opening packages. A lot.

and also, your amazon wish-list link is broken. i suspect that if it worked, it would take me to my own wish list. unfortunately, you can't copy the URL from when you're looking at your wish list and paste it to show other people; you have to e-mail yourself from the "share your wish list" link and then copy-and-paste that URL that it gives you, or else everyone who clicks will just be told what they've asked for for christmas. doesn't really work. :-)

Is there anything I could do for you? (Besides paying it forward, which I will of course be doing my best to do.) I have a tragically plebian mp3 collection but very flexible tastes. I'd most like CDs of *your* favorite songs, but I know it can be really tough to put together a collection like that, especially when you know nothing about the person in question. So I'm going to think of some random things to tell you about my musical interests.

I prefer music with lyrics. Way prefer music with lyrics. I love thematically linked mixed CDs, from fandom soundtracks to songs about science and anything in between.

I enjoy pop, alternative, '80s retro, classic rock, indie music, folk, humor, punk, madrigals...you know, maybe it would be easier to specify what I don't like, which would be some rap and hiphop, most country, and almost all Christian "rock."

The ten songs most played on my media player right now: "The Wonder of Birds" by Innocence Mission, "Mr. Brightside" by The Killers, "The Mountain" by Dave Carter & Tracy Grammar, "Transparent" by Polychrome, "Are You Happy Now" by Richard Shindell, "Hallelujah" by Jeff Buckley, "Pretty When You Cry" by VAST, "We Are the Lucky Ones" by Bif Naked, "Mandelbrot Set" by Jonathan Coulton, and "American Tale" by Carbon Leaf.

The song I'm listening to right now: "Common People" by William Shatner and someone else but I forget who.

The song that comes up after that: "Watching the Detectives" by Elvis Costello.

Thank you! This is *exactly* the kind of icon I meant. I love it.

So, really, no reason to get specific even if I could. I do have a couple of icon fantasies - like, icons that express "yay," "oh my god," "grr," "love," and "laugh" without relying on facial expressions even from cartoon characters - but I know they're essentially unfulfillable.

And this? Is an ideal icon.

Plus, the Drummer is so damn gay. His clothes...the way he talks...the way he's drawn...gay, I'm telling you. And I have this long-standing belief that immortals or very long-lived humans would try most kinds of sex at least once. And Elijah's backstory? So slashy.

I would faint with joy if you wrote any Planetary slash fic, because - well, I love your stuff, and it would be semi-proof that someone besides me sees the slash.

(Not that Authority slash is not good, too. It is! It totally is! Apollo/Midnighter is fantastic, and Grifter, and Jack, and...yeah. *swoons*)

You have no idea how tempted I am to send you a tiny package of a tiny packet of Vegemite *g*. No idea if it'd make customs, though-- the US is funny about food packages. Not that Vegemite really qualifies as 'food', per se. I mean, I'd never suggest that you eat it (god forbid)... it's more like decoration for your pantry, so people can ask, "What on earth is that black stuff in that lovely, colourful jar?" To which, if feeling evil, you could respond: "Here, why don't you try some?"

I have come to two conclusions about Vegemite.

You are quite, quite right. There should so be lots of Hooker/Gondorff. It's one of the reigning confusions of my life that there is not, because - come on. They're like the Slashiest Thieves of All, and there is lots of competition in that arena.

Have sent my address to you. And as I said in the email, do not be daunted by U.S. Customs. They have never once confiscated anything pornographic or tasty from my packages. (Don't send plants or fruit, though - *California* will confiscate that.) And they are slow, but the package gets here in the end.

1) Getting penises in the mail is overrated. 2) What are your bunnies and/or bullet-proof kinks, anyway? Is this something regular readers would know? As someone who happened to be passing by, I'm lost yet curious.

3) The reason I came back and posted was I happened to notice you mentioning LJ icons and wombats. Wombats always automatically make me think of ursulav, who it turns out is actually cool with you LJ-iconing her art, so long as, like, if someone asks about it, you link them back to her. Throwing credit in the comments on the icon couldn't hurt either, naturally. At any rate, I give you: wombat, goldfish, and earth tones/dark colors:
