Poll: Fandoms I Have Loved: Reader Input

I'm just curious, really. I have a lot of half-finished FIHL posts sitting on my hard drive - all the ones listed below are somewhere between 1% and 80% complete - and I guess, now that I've finished with Smallville, I'm feeling a little...unfocused.

Pointers, anyone?

ETA: I have already done (in reverse order) Smallville, Stargate: Atlantis, The Fast and the Furious, Oz, Ocean's 11, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Master & Commander, due South, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Sentinel, and Lord of the Rings. Those can all be found at my Fandoms I Have Loved tag.

ETA2: Allow me to smack my forehead in a painful fashion, because I completely forgot to put on the poll two others that I have in progress: Harry Potter and the DCU. Memo to me: no more posting polls late at night.

I just read through FIHL tags - and thank you so much for the Smallville comments. So true about the horror on the TV, and so entertainingly put. There are ridiculous amounts of good stories in that fandom, but none of them are from the canon.

Would love to see you do Sports Night, which have never seen, but people-I-worshipped wrote in it, and lo, there you have it. SN's unavail on DVD or VHS in the UK (curses). It is bizarre to be reading fanfics when you haven't done canon. How on earth do you recc things when you haven't seen the show?

Seconding, possibly thirding, the Dark is Rising enthusiasm. Perhaps it has more lowkey fans than are apparent.

Also tempted to suggest Blakes 7 for the camp factor. Shiny blue eyeshadow, in an Abba's-in-the-charts-+-not-being-ironic way; a space commander who wore evening gowns on the bridge of her ship, sarcastic computer hacker in leather and studs, visibly squeezed budget because the BBC loathes sf.. give it a go, go on..

Anyway, I should comment more often. Your posts are a joy.

This is a very unfair situation, and you should clearly protest. Possibly with violence. (I'm not sure who the violence should be directed toward, though. The gods of DVD distribution, perhaps?)

How on earth do you recc things when you haven't seen the show?

Well, most of the time I haven't seen the show, because - um. Typically I get a better understanding of the canon by reverse engineering it from the fan fiction than I get if I do watch the show. I know for lots of people it doesn't work that way, but - well, TV and I have never been friends, and I just do better with the written word, so for me fan fiction renders all these shows I would never have understood magically accessible.

In short: parallax and triangulation. These are the weapons we use to back engineer the canon from the FF. And powerful weapons they are, too.

Perhaps it has more lowkey fans than are apparent.

I am coming to this conclusion myself. And, really, I could not be happier.

Your posts are a joy.

Thank you! And, yes, with flattery like that, you should *totally* comment more often.

You may be onto something. I prefer sv fanon to the show (but who wouldn't?) And sadly, the gender politics of K/S are (actually, here they're competing against the gender politics of Capt Kirk, so not really a fair fight either)

I daresay you have this DiR link already, but just in case:
