Poll: Distraction Is Good

I'm kind of - not too bright sometimes. For example, when I grabbed an oven rack to move it around without, um, checking to see if it was hot? That was a "not so bright" moment in my life, right there.

Also, ow.

So I want distraction, with a minimum of typing involved. It's time for a poll! With, ideally, lots of comments! Come on, people - please. Distract me.

(I do actually have a place I'm going with this, by the way - except for the last question, which is there solely because LJ is crazed tonight. I'm trying to find out what fans do and how they do it. Assuming the ice does its job, I'll have a meta post on this sometime in the distant, murky future. Probably.)

Oh, and since you wanted distraction, how about some recs?
Wabbit hunting (http://supacat.livejournal.com/85789.html) by [livejournal.com profile] supacat (Smallville, Clark/Lex)
Hillarious little fic where Clark gets turned into a bunny. So cute!
Lex picked up the bunny and looked it in the eye, holding it at arms length. Its long white ears had fluffy tips that gave it a faintly lopsided look. It was soft to the touch. Its eyes blinked up at him. Of the many and varied forms of victory over his adversary that Lex had fantasized about over the years, this bunny scenario hadn't featured in any of them. But Lex was nothing if not opportunistic.
"Oh, that's a French Angora, isn't it?" said Crystal, his personal assistant. "I just adore his little lavender collar."
"I call him Bunnykins," said Lex, with a feeling of intense pleasure.

I would rec 'Sex With Your Drugged Team Leader: Is It Really Such A Bad Idea?', by [livejournal.com profile] imperfectcircle myself, but [livejournal.com profile] delurker does it so much better (http://delurker.livejournal.com/64266.html). Hilarious SGA John/Rodney.

Schrodinger's Cat Toy

*dies laughing*

Okay, that is brilliant.

Hee! Isn't it though? Glad you enjoyed. :)

Thank you! You are the best distraction provider in the world. These made me deeply happy last night, when I was not precisely in the mood to type. (Ice makes burns numb, but it also makes unburned parts unresponsive. When the burned parts don't hurt, the unburned parts don't want to move. And by the time they're willing, you need more ice.)

I hereby dub you Knight [livejournal.com profile] delurker, Bespoke Distraction Provider.

[identity profile] delurker.livejournal.com 2006-09-27 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
I am flattered, but must humbly point out that you were entertained by [livejournal.com profile] dzurlady, not me. (In retrospect, we should have made sure that we had names that a) didn't begin with the same letter, and b) weren't the same length. Oops.)

But I do have a linkspammy post for distraction! Find it here (http://delurker.livejournal.com/64640.html). (Not that I'm angling for continued knighthood or anything. *coff*)

[identity profile] thefourthvine.livejournal.com 2006-09-27 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
*sighs*

You'd better both take a knighthood. I seriously cannot tell you apart. I mean, I can when I am directly looking at the names, but - okay. Excursion into TFV's Weirdness here.

See, I identify LJers mostly by the unique colors of their names. For me, each letter has a specific color that never changes and is interchangeable with the letter, so that I could write a paper with colors and read it about as easily as if it was written with letters. And some words, including most names, taken on a special color blend and pattern; this includes, as I discovered early in my LJhood, all LJ usernames.

Every. Single. LJer. Is unique in color and pattern, even when I had two cherryices on my friends list. Except for the two of you. I can't even figure out why; I've had pairs of names that were much more similar (see, for example, the era of two cherryices).

*waves white flag of totally giving up on understanding this mystery*

But, in any case: I'm sorry, both about the not-telling-you-two-apart thing and the mistake above. I decree that [livejournal.com profile] dzurlady gets the aforementioned knighthood. And [livejournal.com profile] delurker also gets a knighthood, for excellence in distraction and disambiguation.

[identity profile] delurker.livejournal.com 2006-09-27 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
Really? That's so cool! (Unless you get colour clashes, in which case, annoying.)

Every. Single. LJer. Is unique in color and pattern, even when I had two cherryices on my friends list. Except for the two of you. I can't even figure out why; I've had pairs of names that were much more similar (see, for example, the era of two cherryices).
Huh. Very weird. [livejournal.com profile] dzurlady had a theory that we friended you at the same time, but joule tells me that we were more than a month apart, and had many people in between.

The only thing I can think of is - well, we're identical twins, and this is somehow marked on us on a sub-atomic level, which you have picked up on and translated into colour blend and pattern. Or something. *g*

Anyway, you're not the only one who gets us confused, online or off. It happens. (Regularly.) Don't worry about it. I will endeavour to only use my default icon, on the off-chance that will help.

And delurker also gets a knighthood, for excellence in distraction and disambiguation.
(Sweet! My plan has come to fruitition.)

[identity profile] delurker.livejournal.com 2006-09-27 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
(It occurs to ask - if people have a RL journal and a fannish journal, do the two journals have similar colours and patterns?)
