Poll: Yuletide! Yay!
I am very excited about
yuletide, and I've been bouncing around like a crazed thing since I signed up. (This is the Anticipation phase of Yuletide. Yes, there are phases of Yuletide. Yes, I have actually written them down. I know, I know, so pathetic, but it's an important thing to me, okay? I was never that excited about the holidays as a kid, but as an adult, Yuletide makes me absolutely delirious with joy.)
Anyway. I deal with the Anticipation phase (This is actually Anticipation Part One, because sign-ups are still open. When they close, I will start hard-core Anticipation. It is dangerous to come within seven feet of me during that time.) in many ways, but in part by refreshing the requested fandoms list, so that I can admire the shiny numbers climbing ever higher. (Plus, this year, there is a festival of gold and green to admire there. You can even see how many people asked for and volunteered for a given fandom. It is the coolest thing ever!)
But the site went down briefly today. Suddenly, I had no outlet for my Yuletide glee. Hence, this poll.
And if any of you have friends listers who are also doing Yuletide, I'd love it if you'd point 'em over here, 'cause I don't know how many of my own friends listers are. (You all should, though. You get a story! In a tiny fandom of your choosing! And you can write a story that will make someone else's heart sing! And this year there is no qualifying requirement! Go, sign up, and then come back and take the poll!)
Yeah, yeah. 'Tis the season to abuse exclamation marks and the Create Poll function on LJ. Happy holidays!

Me: It is not perfect!
Motivational me: Yes, but it exists! Think how happy that will make them.
Me: ...Okay. *writes a bit*
This is the plan.]
This is, in my opinion, the Yuletide Ethos.
And your mantra is excellent. It will keep you sane in the time to come. (If you get desperate, go to ff.net and look at the other stories in your assigned fandom. My first year, I was paralyzed with fear. And then I went to look at ff.net's miniscule collection of All Creatures Great and Small stories. There was pretty much only a painful Mary Sue series, as I recall. (It seems to have been taken down. Woo.) It made me feel much better to think that, no matter what I ended up writing, it would at least not have an OC who marries Siegfried and who James loooooooves.)
If you ever wish to squee/flail about Yuletide, I'm there.
Yay! And most definitely likewise. And, hey, if you get assigned a fandom I actually know, I'm here for beta purposes, too.

0.o o.0 Wow. That's... something.
I know that for one of the fandoms I offered to write, there is no fic at all on ff.net. (I know of three stories for the fandom - two at Yuletide, and one I found by a hopeful search on LJ seek, yay.) The other one - well, I don't know if you saw my post, but it was tragic. And I've written in a foreign language for one of the other fandoms I offered, so English should be a cinch. (And now with 100% more grammatical correctness!) So I have hope.

Awesome! I do fear the beta-getting process, since I haven't had much luck before.
You can ask me too, although I should state upfront that I'm not the best at questioning authorial choices. You could end it abruptly with "Rocks fall, everyone dies", and you could very well get back only the suggestion that a semi-colon could be nice there, and you need a full stop at the end. But I could give it a go - I've noticed I've been questioning author's choices more recently, so.
Anyway. In conclusion, Yuletide = scary but very exciting.

I...I would like to think I was hallucinating when I say that James referred to her as "My Little Sunshine" instead of by her name, but I have this terrible searing recollection of actually seeing that on the screen.
I got two paragraphs in. And then I had to give up. As it was, I could hear individual neurons in the reading segment of my brain writing vicious letters of protest.
The other one - well, I don't know if you saw my post, but it was tragic.
Yes. Tragic. Amusing, too, but that's just me. (I especially liked the one with "no series characters, but written in the same style," or whatever it was. I looked at that one for a good long time, wondering I really wanted to hunt down the story in its native habitat. And then, thank god, sanity returned.)

*eyes you*
You know you can always ask me, right? I can't always read my friends list, even my default filter, because of Time Issues, but I'm always available by email, and if I don't have time or don't know the fandom, I'll try to find someone else who can do it.
For Yuletide purposes, you can also ask the Yuletide mods if neither one of us has any luck finding you a beta. There's often even a beta thread, where people can volunteer their services and hook up with betas. This is because it can be quite tricky to find a Yuletide beta, since you can't actually say in public what fandom it's in, and none of your friends may know the fandom. (So, like, a post to your friends list that states the fandom is not allowed, unless you lock it and, if necessary, filter out the person you're writing for.)
(And, in other news - as I just finished noting to

Oh no, they are amusing. The stories are actually better than the summaries, in fairness. (Except for this one, the alternative ending one (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2815837/1/), which (if you do not mind being massively spoiled for three books) is, I believe, hilarious even if you don't know the canon.)
The Scarecrow fandom is a little odd, in that the semi-official boards for the series (and other books by the author) allows "fanfic" for the series, provided you don't use the characters. (At least, I believe it does - I couldn't actually find more than two fics there, but that could be my non-leet skillz there.) It's fandom, Jim, but not as we know it.
You know you can always ask me, right?
No, I did not know that! Shiny. Thank-you so much! I shall ask in the future. And the beta thread has potential - I've seen other people offer to write in the fandoms I've offered, so I know they're out there.
(And, in other news - as I just finished noting to
Yes, you did. (Which is totally fascinating, btw.)
Anyway, if you think I might be getting it wrong again, please please let me know; I am convinced that I can beat this. *resolute*)
Really? That is good - I hate causing confusion. (Although I am well used to it by now, after umpty years of twinship.) I'll speak up if I do notice you being confuzzled. :)
