FF That Proves the Fic Author Should Have Written the Canon, Too, Except I Don't Think She Could've Talked George Clooney and Brad Pitt into Doing Some of This Stuff: Confidence Men, by Dorinda. Ocean's 11, Danny Ocean/Rusty Ryan. As soon as I got to the five-pieces-of-mail scene, my jaw hit the floor and stayed there for the duration of the fic. This is one of the few pieces of slash I've read that fit so perfectly into the canon (at least in my mind) that I've melded the two – this fic is another set of deleted scenes to me, and always will be.

Best FF That Should Destroy Treasured Childhood Memories but Somehow Doesn't: Summer's Men, by Kest. Dark Is Rising series, Will/Bran. (Yes, I've mentioned this one before, but I don't care. Some fics just deserve our unwholesome worship, and there's nothing we can do but give it.) I started this fully intending to feel righteous indignation and ended up only feeling that Kest got it just right. From now on, this is grown up Will and Bran for me.

FF with the Best Slash Names Ever: Telemachos, or The Genealogy of Buggery, by Resonant. Horatio Hornblower book slash, Hornblower/Longley. Did Forester plan these names - hell, these books - to be this slashy? Probably not. Those were sad, repressed times, people.

Best FF That's Really a YA Novel, Only Better and Dirtier Than Most, Not That I Think YAs Would Mind: Void, by Wax Jism*. The Faculty, Zeke/Casey/Delilah. This fic is brutal and sexy and strange. Just like adolescence.

That's a sexy story. I'm loving your recs. Your descriptions of the fics are absolutely hilarious. Do you think you will do something like Razzies (http://www.razzies.com/asp/directory/XcDirectory.asp) for fanfics?

Well, the whole Razzy thing, that'd require me to find bad FF, right? So, probably not while I still have my sanity. (Estimated time remaining with sanity: 6 weeks, 3 days, 17 hours. Halve that if I keep doing Slashy noms.)

And if you want to set me up with icons, I would love you forever. (I would even name a special Slashy award after you, except I think that counts more as an insult than a motivator.) I am the exact opposite of a visual person, and the idea of having to find some picture that would represent this thing...well, I'd have to lose more than my sanity.

Oh I just thought you could work with the bad FF you've come across, the number of which I assume is legion. Such is the nature of the fanfic beast. Actually I'm not that interested in the badfics themselves, but rather your very witty remarks.

That depends on the name of the award, doesn't it? But I'll take anything. Unfortunately, I don't know how to make icons and I don't know where to find slashy ones. The 6th Element makes great icons (http://www.livejournal.com/allpics.bml?user=thelovehater). If you ask her I think she'll make you one. But if you just want regular icons, I've listed some icon commmunities below (check the communities' memories section for their archives). Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Yup! As soon as I get the rest of my life under control (it's been quite the interesting December in these parts), I'll be coming back here to do some, you know, posting. And I'll also fix all the yuletide story links, because, thanks to some very irritating hackers, the archive had to be moved a few days before Christmas (2004). I had heard there was a spot of bothher with dammed hackers in an archive. Just didn't know it was that one. V. Sad.


And in a time of great literary need, and enormous laziness, i have gone back to see what you recced, as you have dammed good taste in fics/auhtors and what not. ALso you maybe sucking me into the Sentinel (sp?) fandom. I do not have time for this, but alas it seems to be happening :P

Just wanted to let you know that the slashiest relationship in the Hornblower book canon turns out not to be Hornblower/Longley in A Ship of the Line, nor Hornblower/Mound in Commodore Hornblower, but Hornblower/Spendlove in Admiral Hornblower in the West Indies.

Which, uh, proves your point.

Sometimes I really do believe that Forester did this shit on purpose.

Well, I'm now convinced he did. Or he had the Freudian thing working on him in a big way, because - Hornblower/SPENDLOVE? You'd have to walk a long way in cheap thongs to convince me that doesn't mean something.

Or I guess he could've just had a really juvenile sense of humor. Maybe he spent all his writing time giggling like a 12-year-old boy during Sex Ed.
