Poll: Crossovers, Oh My

Recently, I was moderately flabbergasted to come upon a Highlander x Yami no Matsuei crossover. I had one of those moments of staring blankly at the computer screen, trying to figure out if I had experienced a sudden linguistic disconnect, and maybe in this language "Highlander x Yami no Matsuei crossover" actually meant "now we all get cake" or something, because surely such a thing, defined as I understood it, was totally impossible.

And then I read it, and realized that, no, it isn't impossible, and I was forced once again to reflect on the fact that Highlander seems to be a fandom that is just very open to crossovers. I know that's partly because, hey, you've got 5,000 years of mostly unfilled Methos backstory, and who is to say he didn't pick up a young Christopher Keller in a gay bar? He could have! He could also have spent fifteen years traveling around with Doctor Who. I mean, it's not like he'd necessarily bring either of those things up in conversation. But also, just, the Highlander universe seems to be unusually smooshy - it is totally willing to cozy up to, maybe even move in with, other canons, as I'm reminded every time the HL newsletter comes out and most of the new stories are crossovers.

Naturally, I got to wondering: what other fandoms are particularly crossover-friendly? And that led, inevitably, to thoughts of those fandoms that are much, much harder to work into crossovers. Which led to thoughts of AUs, which in turn took me to a terrifying meta place, and Best Beloved had to come talk me down. "How about a poll?" she said. "Polls are fun! And, also, you can probably finish one before you fall asleep." (Whereas with actual meta - at the rate I'm currently finishing stuff, I'd have it ready for posting in, um, 2012 or thereabouts, assuming no delays for rain.)

So perhaps you would like to write my meta for me? I offer ticky boxes as incentive!

[livejournal.com profile] shrieking_ell Wished for James Bond/Dr Who. Oddly enough, did so too, last month, and my friend [livejournal.com profile] apatheia_jane wrote it for me here (http://apatheia-jane.livejournal.com/262626.html). I love the internets.

I have a serious crossover problem. People pose unlikely crossovers at me and my brain latches on and won't let go. To date, I've done Angels in America/House, 30 Rock/Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Dark is Rising/M*A*S*H, Oceans 11/Harry Potter, and Oceans 11/Boston Legal. Sometimes I think there is something really quite wrong with my brain... ::sigh::

The Dark is Rising/M*A*S*H, Oceans 11/Harry Potter

Could you perhaps point me the direction of these? Because I am just so intrigued!

They're short little comment-fics here (http://macadamanaity.livejournal.com/56879.html). One day maybe I'll clean them up and post them...

I have kind of the same problem. Which is how I wound up writing a Supernatural/Rescue Rangers crossover. Yes, with the cartoon chipmunks. *shrugs and uses appropriate icon*

Hahahahaha! *awesome*

Everyone should have a friend like [livejournal.com profile] apatheia_jane. *admires her*

I have a serious crossover problem.

I wouldn't call that a problem, more of a delightful personality quirk. You're the person random crossover generators were made for! (I'm not. I always stare at them thinking, "Neverwhere/Xena?" And then my brain shorts out.)

See, I *know* my brain should short out at that moment, but in fact my brain refuses to deal with crossovers where the point of connection between the two fandoms is obvious. E.G. Dead Like Me and Reaper: Both take place in the Pacific Northwest, both are about, well, reapers who are young adults having trouble growing up, stuck in dead-end demeaning jobs, both feature the wonderful Christine Willes, and both share some of the same creators. This is a crossover on a silver platter but any time I try to force them together, my brain seems to yawn and move on to, say, Torchwood/Dark is Rising.

This is so awesome! I go away for a weekend, & come back & find people were admiring me behind my back!

My brain is currently stalled on Top Gear/Bond. It won't write it, & it won't think of anything else. One of the presenters, Richard Hammond, in one segment talks about how sometimes, cars get crashed into lakes, & does a demo on how to get out of them. Then crashes another car into an ice boulder. Then another into a river. Then I see an article about Bond's Aston being crashed by an unnamed stunt driver into a lake. Then Hamster writes a column about how Daniel Craig uses entirely too many beauty care products for a real Bond-esque character, which makes me deeply convinced that somehow, it was him behind the wheel trying to impress Craig, except that it really backfired when the lake became involved & now he's just bitter/retaliating with mockery. It needs to be written, but it's just too obvious.

However, someone above wished for a Top Gear/SGA, & that I might just have to do.
I'd wish for a Top Gear/Torchwood fic, but I already unexpectedly found one of those, & it was awesome. Gah, it seems in the long gaps between US TV, Top Gear has eaten my brain. I was in a car for very long times over the weekend, & I tried playing that game where whatever song comes on the radio, you say what fandom/character/pairing/arc/whatever you'd vid it to, & I could not think of anything, other than Death Cab for Cutie's new one "I will possess your heart", which is clearly creepy and not at all romantic & fits with the Buffy ep where the Gentlemen steal your voice & come in the night with their scalpel & steal your heart to put in a box. Other than that, the best my fanbrain could come up with was to snark at people's cars sort of in character.

Good Omens/Oceans 11 I desperately want someone else to write, coz it'd be brilliant. Oo, new cracktastic suggestion: Good Omens/Xena.
