I will try it and see what happens...

I'm going there, but it will be the first time I've been in a fannish migration to a similar platform rather than a better one, so I will be maintaining both journals to see what happens.

I am going to wait to see how cross-posting and rss feeds go. ex since LJ does not support authenticated feeds, I have to use a separate feed reader to read people who do not cross-post to LJ.

They want to do authenticated support and are thinking very hard about how to do it without being evil. But it isn't there yet.

Crossposting, on the other hand, will be licked by open beta.

[identity profile] damned-colonial.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 06:35 am (UTC)(link)
I'll be mostly posting on DW (am already) but will crosspost "important" stuff -- probably mostly announcements of stuff I want a wider audience to know about, which might include fic I've written, or that I'm moving again, or that I'm having a party. I dunno. But I truly hope you'll be posting on DW so I can read you there, as I'm hoping for most of my fannish life to move in that direction. If you don't crosspost, though, I'll still keep reading no matter where you are. *smooch*

I am planning on parallel journals until Fandom decides for me where I shall be.

DreamWidth sounds like an improvement over LJ in many ways, but I'm on LJ for fandom. So it all depends on how many other people move over to DW.

[identity profile] glitterdemon.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 06:44 am (UTC)(link)
My plan is to move as much of my activity over there as possible, though that doesn't mean I'm going to stop reading the journals of those who are sticking with LJ (for now~~).

[identity profile] bitter-crimson.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
If I had any friends offering invite codes, I would create an account there and try it out. However, did the same with IJ and other LJ clones sites, and never really got into any of them, for one main reason: my flist isn't there, and I'll stay/go wherever the majority of my flist is. Since I'm pretty certain the majority of my flist is gonna stay on LJ and will not switch to DW, I won't switch either.

http://dw-codesharing.dreamwidth.org/ is the invite code comm. When people start getting invite codes, that is where they will share them.

I rarely use my LJ for much of anything, aside from occasionally bitching about television and/or posting my fics. Mainly I use it for [livejournal.com profile] epic_recs and, since I doubt our seven reccers and 500+ readers are ready to jump ship, I'll probably be hanging around LJ. If DW grows to the point that a significant portion of fandom is over there, I do see the possibility of cross-posting in the future.

[identity profile] rheanna27.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 07:07 am (UTC)(link)
I'm planning to get a paid (not a seed) DW account straight away, and after that I'll probably post only to DW but read both LJ and DW flists for as long as there are people on LJ I want to keep reading (although if I posted fic I'd post on LJ to link to it). Ultimately, it'll depend what the fannish hive mind decides; if DW fails to catch on and fandom stays on LJ then I imagine I'd let the DW account lapse eventually.

Needless to say, I will read you wherever you are!

Right now I'm posting first to LJ, then running the importer to mirror both posts (and comments) on DW. Since I do the tabbed browsing thing, I have both my LJ friends page and my DW reading page open in tabs. Depending on which winds up with the heavier traffic, I may move that one to first-priority in my tab list. I put out a poky-thing for a Semagic-style blinky thing in the planned desktop client, one that polls both DW and LJ and blinks in an appropriate color, to alert to friends-posting, so that may happen. I'm already cross-reading LJ and Twitter, so one more reading page will not be too much.

[identity profile] elynross.livejournal.com 2009-04-03 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
So, does the importer do a comparison and then only import any changes? Or does it replace the whole thing? (I know the options for what to import, and I imported my LJ over to DW, but I didn't know it was a feasible "mirrorer" for updating).

I love Dreamwidth as an idea and believe that many people are going to move there, but since I'm here for people, I'll have to think about cross-posting and reading two friendslists (LJ and DW) at least for a while (however long that will be). I'm thinking about getting a paid DW account, though, which I haven't done here and I've been here for five years. DW means a lot to me and I want it to succeed.

That's not five paragraphs but maybe it's enough for now. :)

I will almost certainly pay for a DW account for one month to get my username over there, but I don't think it's likely that I'll be using the site much unless there is an unexpectedly huge fannish migration, and even then I'm very likely to make more use of feeds and crossposting rather than to leave LJ.

[identity profile] lucia-tanaka.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 07:40 am (UTC)(link)
... I honestly have never heard of Dreamwidth before today. I'm kinda afraid it's just going to be Inksome all over again... Is DW better in any way?

Right now I crosspost to IJ and read my flist both here and there, but LJ is definitely my primary journal (I would not be at IJ at all if I didn't have friend there who had fully moved from LJ). So when DW opens, I will get an account and do the same thing. However, unlike IJ, which I actively dislike, I am excited about DW. So depending on how superkeen I find the features, and how much of my flist moves, I may eventually consider DW my main journal and LJ and IJ the ones I crosspost to. (And hopefully maybe some of those IJ folks will move to DW and I can ditch the IJ altogether.)

[identity profile] littleheaven70.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 07:52 am (UTC)(link)
Like many, it will depend where the majority of my f-list go. I did spend the time setting up a Greatest Journal to mirror my LJ, only to have it disappear along with the site. So, there's that to consider, too. I like the concept of it, though.

Already there, will be cross-posting for the moment.

If other people crosspost on LJ and DW, I'm planning to read them on DW, but I'm sure I'll keep doing a lot of reading on LJ as well (unless/until DW get the authenticated feeds problem completely sorted).

Basically, I'm not planning to lose anyone.

I'm going to try for one of the permanent accounts when they go on sale in a few weeks. If I'm lucky enough to get one -- and maybe even if I'm not and have to settle for a regular paid account -- I'll cross post both here and on DW while watching to see where most of fandom ends up. And I expect to be reading both places for quite some time. I wouldn't be surprised if it's a couple of years before it's really clear how many people are going to make the migration. I'm crossing my fingers that we'll all wind up there eventually, but who knows.

Having read the comments here and some of the posts you've linked to, I'm in the follow-my-flist camp. I may well get a paid account early on to snag my username, though, in anticipation of it taking off.

I do love the idea of it and the dedication and enthusiasm behind it.

ETA (again, sorry!): Any idea what happens when paid accounts lapse? Do they revert to a basic free account?

I really want to move to DW. I hope my fandom stuff will migrate. My RL flist will stay on LJ I think for the most part so either I'm going to double-post or post on LJ and use DW for fandom stuff maybe. But I really want a DW account and I'm super excited about it. :)

I'm another one who'll be getting some kind of DW account but is not sure I'll be upping sticks and moving completely

I have a permanent account on LJ, and so do a lot of my RL friends, so I don't think I'll be leaving altogether - but if media fandom moves, I'll definitely want to be there with them.

[identity profile] rosaleendhu.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 09:08 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't realize what dreamwidth was until I saw this post, so I'm definitely sticking around LJ for a while. And there's no way all my RPs will transfer over easily since I'd need a bajillion accounts for them. I would be willing to look into using both though.

Dreamwidth's website posting interface will have a crossposter built-in, so being both places should be pretty easy.

I can't take your poll since it's all predicated on my answer to the first question, which is: maybe. I know from experience that I'm not capable of keeping up multiple accounts, and I don't want to leave my friends behind - so, even though I'd really like to shift to DW, I probably won't. I'd like to try the cross-post/cross-read thing, I guess I'll see how it goes though.

I intend to move, though keep reading on LJ, and to crosspost for a (long) while, though perhaps not ALL posts.
