I will see how it goes. I have a significant portion of non-fannish LJ friends though, who couldn't give a flying monkey about moving, so I will probably run two accounts for a bit and see how it goes, splitting fannish to DW and keeping my RL here.

I'm currently on DW under an experimental name; as soon as I get invite codes & a working crossposter, Ragnell.org will crosspost there as well as IJ, and eventually I will phase IJ out. \o/

DW, for the record, is awesome, and I am leanring so much from them & OTW it is unbelievable.

I feel you forgot the very important "I don't know yet" answer. *G*

I like what I see, but I know it'll be months before I get a site I am comfortable reading (literally, ow my eyes) and includes the features I most want. THEN is when I'll start making decisions.

[identity profile] aynatonal.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 11:59 am (UTC)(link)
I'm just not sure--I was here for fandom originally, but now a fair number of my rl friends are here as well and *they're* not picking up sticks. I'm taking a wait-and-see attitude at the moment. If everyone I read goes (and doesn't cross-post) then I'm going to have to make the move.

I'll have a DW account but won't be getting rid of my other journals unless I can get the people I'm friends with there to move to DW. Since many of them aren't fandom people at all, I think it's unlikely.

However, if all of fandom moves to DW, I'll stop x-posting so much and will limit my fannish posting to DW.

It should be noted that DW isn't intended as a purely fannish project! They want a diverse userbase with fannish and non-fannish and all other types of people as well. (I'm doing some dev stuff for them, & I'm only borderline-fannish; mostly my LJ is for personal stuff & I keep another one for fic.)

Although in my case as well I suspect that my known-IRL LJ friends are probably less likely to be bothered to move over; having said that, I don't think fandom is the only subcommunity on LJ that has issues with some of the ways LJ operates these days!

[identity profile] carta.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 12:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I totally support Dreamwidth in concept; I have long thought that fandom and LJ were a terrible combination, mostly because LJ was never intended to become the sparkly fandom home that we made it. I'll get a DW account eventually, but as I don't actually PRODUCE fannish works, I'm in no rush. I love LiveJournal, I love MY journal, and the permanent account I bought years ago has long since paid for itself.

I doubt much of my friendslist will migrate there entirely - I feel suffocated if the ratio of fannish posts to nonfannish posts is weighted too heavily on the fandom side, so the people on my friendslist that I read the most tend to use LJ as a personal journal with some fannish content. Woot. And, as I use delicious and whatnot to find my fic, I personally don't NEED a fandom-centric DW account.

Basically, I think DW is a great idea, I am all for the fannish migration off of Livejournal (I'm such a cantankerous bitter old fandom queen, I really miss the days of personal websites), but personally, I have no pressing need for a DW account.

You left out the option where I totally intend to buy an account at DW and crosspost, but I doubt that most of my flist will go over there, so I'm pretty much keeping a foot in both places. :-)

When I can get an account (I've already got an Open ID one), the name will be the same as here: beck_liz

It's really impossible for me to predict yet. I plan to buy an account (paid, not seed, can't afford that), and start crossposting and crossreading, but I'm going to have to see how I like it/how many of my friends swtich/etc before I know which will be dominant.

This.

[identity profile] boogieshoes.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 12:45 pm (UTC)(link)
i'll probably wait a couple years for the kinks to get worked out, and to see how many people move. but half my flist is not tv-fandom associated, so will probably stay with lj anyway. it's probable that i will end up with lj and dw accounts both, and how active i am on each will depend on who's where.

I will be buying a seed or premium paid account, crossposting to LJ, but with comments directed to DW, and doing my very best to lure my fannish life to DW. I want to be a paid user at DW to both support the enterprise and to get invite codes so I can get with the luring.

I want to move over to DW. I lurk on the discussion lists, etc., but I think my brain has topped out, and I'm going to need for someone to walk me through it. Open ID, the whole nine yards.

NOT. KIDDING.

I plan on getting an account on DW when open beta starts. As to where/how I'll be reading LJ posts, I'm not certain. Given how little I post, it will probably be on both, either directly or via a feed.

ETA: I will probably be holding on to my LJ account even if I do migrate. Given how quiet I am it probably won't look much different than now. I will, however, probably let it lapse into an unpaid account.

[identity profile] ruric.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 01:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I've done the OpenID thing already and will get a paid account the moment they go on sale.

Like may thers I'll be doing the parallel journal for a good while because I know there are comms here on LJ which won't make the move but many comms and people that will *G*

[identity profile] agentotter.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 01:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Most of my answers are actually "I don't know." I'm looking forward to it and hope it's awesome, but I'll probably either maintain both DW and LJ accounts for awhile or wait and see if there's a massive exodus from LJ to DW. I'm not a real high-power LJ user or had any problems with them so for me the issue isn't so much which is better as where all my friends are. I'm just that shallow, I guess.

[identity profile] apetslife.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 01:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I plan to read and post on both for a while, just to see how things go. I've got a DW test/beta account now and I really like it, but for me the most important thing will be being where my fandoms and friends are!

I'm hoping to move my fannish life over to dreamwidth and perhaps crosspost my less fannish life to both LJ and DW.

Damn them, will you all stop talking about this so I can be sure to get a paid account?

:D

I couldn't quite answer your questions, as I read all of my "social networking" services via NetVibes. This feeds me a semi-organized page of links to posts on LJ, IJ, JF, Fbook, Twitter, etc etc, as well as all my unread email messages. I can click directly on the link to go to the post, so I actually never see my "flist", I go right through any cut tags to the full post. It also means I grate my teeth when I see posts without subject lines. :)

... and I actually AM in Montreal. Sweet! :)

[identity profile] ellen-fremedon.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I know some people I want to keep reading will probably never leave LJ, so I'll continue to read both flists until DW gets the feed situation sorted and I can read everyone in the same place. But as people leave for DW, I'll filter them off my LJ default view. And I will be posting my main posts on DW from the start, and x-posting to LJ with comments redirected to DW.

Yay Dreamwidth!

Whoa, girls-mostly F/OSS project? There are, like, two of those total, right? Colour me <intrigued colour>!

[identity profile] damned-colonial.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Correct, as far as I know. I blogged about it here (http://infotrope.net/blog/2009/03/25/ada-lovelace-day-two-ground-breaking-open-source-projects/) and I haven't yet seen any other examples despite hunting around for them. Drupal, often considered one of the most women-friendly FLOSS projects out there, have about 10% female contributors.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I'm happy here, and I plan to stay. It isn't encouraging to me that a lot of the wankiest people I know are the ones who really are enthusiastic about leaving. That sort of suggests to me that it's going to be like the wankiest parts of fandom over there. I guess I'd go if all my friends went, but until then I'll stay here with the dinosaurs.

[identity profile] carta.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 02:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I relate to this comment.

[identity profile] hannahrorlove.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Odd as it may be at this time, I don't worry about Livejournal. I know too many people that use it for non-fandom activities to think it's going to disappear once Dreamwidth opens up.

I'm willing to wait and see what happens before investing in a DW account, which will probably be based on who else goes over there. It'll be fun to watch, I hope.

[identity profile] teresa-c.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I've already moved any content I might post off of LJ out of distrust and principle. Since the vast majority of fandom stayed put, I still read and comment here. I plan to make DW my home, but will continue to read and comment on LJ so long as my friends stay here.

But I SO hope more of fandom will come to DW.
