Earthling Update!

The earthling is 16, unbelievably enough. And the earthling is also she/her! This has been true for a while, but she's now comfortable letting all her internet aunties and uncles and nuncles and auncles know. So please update your pronoun database! And if you know her deadname, please text or email or DM me on Bluesky for her real name; she'd rather you think of her only by that from now on.

This is a post where you can leave congratulations for her if you want to! (Also suggestions on high femme looks. Neither of the earthling's parents are femme enough for her, sad to say.)

Congrats!! As ever, how is she this old, etc etc.

Femme things! Obviously these are based on my experience so take as little/as much of this as wanted.
- Boxy/bulky top or bulky bottom, not both at once. It's easier to create more of a purposeful silhouette that way.
- Figure out a waistline/height that makes you feel cutest and get more things that will highlight it! This also depends a bit on height and torso length, but play around with different top/bottom splits until you get a general range that you like best.
- I find skirts to be my personal high femme go-to, but play around with shapes and lengths! A-line, pencil, clingy/bandage, slip/straight, circle; mini, knee-length, midi/calf, maxi/ankle. I used to wear a-lines and minis only bc I'm short and was afraid of length but now my fave is straight/skimming midis with a high waist/boxy top.
- If trying heels, look up the Charlize Theron walk vid//Bucky Barnes on his way to kill Cpt America. A classic of the genre. Yes not bending your knees much and letting your hips take some of the impact, but also confidence, and don't lean forward!

High femme looks: my elder daughter is super into Japanese Lolita fashion, which has lots of options for being very fancy in a wide variety of ways. (The goth version, the very very pink version, etc.) Especially nice for a girl who would like to be dramatic and feminine and highly decorated but not necessarily sexy.

I'm the furthest from femme that's possible, so don't have any tips, but am sure that she'll have fun exploring all the possibilities to discover what makes her happiest

Also, is red lipstick still high femme? If so (and if she wants to go all out because this one is stupidly expensive), Pat McGrath's Elson 2 is one of the best red lipsticks I ever come across. Almost ridiculously smudge-proof. So if it's signature look time... ;)

Congratulations to the Earthling! High femme looks are so much fun and I hope she's having a blast figuring out her styles.

I like doing femme stuff too, and one tip I can think of is that snagtights.us is a great place to score high-quality, cute af, multi-patterned tights for all sizes. They even do a set of pride tights! If she likes to wear skirts and dresses, those are the absolute best tights to get, way more comfortable than anything else on the market, and more breathable/less sweaty in warm weather (given your climate I imagine I don't have to talk up their thick warm wool tights). I find it very pleasurable to do cute colour/pattern coordination with the snag tights.

every girl/woman's approach to femme is different, but for me, it's all about textures. Playing with lace, velvet, stretchy things, big belts with giant buckles or lacing like a corset, corsets, drapey things. playing with reveal and conceal. high neck button up or plunging neckline. dramatic shawls and throws. embroidery. sequins. hair toys (clips and bows and tiaras). i can't wear heels but they sure are pretty. skin care.. luxuriating in oils and salves and lotions and scents. enjoying one's own skin, everywhere. make-up and hair -- playing with looks. trying it all. reveling in it. and all of it is first and foremost, for YOU

Congratulations! That's so awesome! It feels like a couple months ago that she was a) 12 and b) helping me with my animal crossing island, but apparently time is a thing.

I second the rec for Snag tights. Even my autistic, clothes must not be touching me at any time, self can handle them for multiple hours at a time. My 16yo niece is really into what I'd describe as a victorian school teacher look, with a long a-line skirt and a button up shirt with ruffles, and boots. She complains that it's only available online, but also she lives in Vermont, which is not a hotbed of brick and mortar fashion outlets, so it might be that.
