Poll: Tell Me about You

Hey, it's Yuletide Eve! And I know most of you are probably doing - I don't know, family things, or festive things, or possibly trying to put together something with nine million plastic parts - but I am here. Waiting. Very impatiently. And if you're here, too, you could take my poll. Clicking entertainment for you! Distraction for me! Everyone wins!

[Poll #1320548]

What we might call the Whoverse if that didn't have Grinchian overtones

Lots of people say "Whoniverse," actually.

[identity profile] thefourthvine.livejournal.com 2008-12-25 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
Doesn't help. When you say Whoniverse, I still expect the Doctor to join hands with all his companions and sing "Fa who dor ray" (or however it goes) and then eat some roast beast.

...I suppose the Master would be playing the part of the Grinch. WAIT NO STOP I AM NOT THINKING ABOUT THIS ANYMORE.

Define fandoms. As in, things I currently enjoy, things I read, or things I'm active in, writing-wise & community-wise? *g*

[identity profile] thefourthvine.livejournal.com 2008-12-25 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
It is an exercise left to the poll-taker, for only you know what is a current fandom for you! But, well, when I took it I defined it as things I'm actively seeking fannish product in.

Fandoms come and fandoms go, but Sports Night will always have a special place in my heart. <3 I should probably read some fic that was written more than ten years ago. :X

I really don't think of myself as active in any of the above-listed fandoms, but I'm perfectly happy to read fics in quite a few of them when I stumble across them on my friends list.

[identity profile] thefourthvine.livejournal.com 2008-12-25 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
I'm that way about some of these myself (and about Weiss Kreuz and Saiyuki, for that matter), so I completely get that.

I confess that I said Sports Night to make you happy (*g*), although if someone recs a good SN story, I absolutely will drop everything and go read it. It's just that I don't consider it a current fandom of mine. If I included old loves that I still dally with on occasion, I'd've added in dueSouth, Highlander, and SG-1.

[identity profile] thefourthvine.livejournal.com 2008-12-25 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
In all truth, it's hard to consider Sports Night a current fandom just because there aren't a lot of new stories coming out for it. But I still loooooooove it.

Oh, Dan and Casey. *hearts*

[identity profile] everysecondtues.livejournal.com 2008-12-25 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
I decided to be adventuresome and try three exchanges this holiday season. Luckily, one of them is spaced out much further, and I actually don't get my assignment until the 26th, I think.

I can't wait for Yuletide to be open and for more of the fakenews-fanfic Secret Santa fic, though! It's going be amazing.

[identity profile] thefourthvine.livejournal.com 2008-12-25 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
Ooo, clever idea with the not sending assignments out until the 26th; I admire whichever exchange that is.

Also, wow, three. See, I can only ever do Yuletide. I mean, that's it, my only exchange all year. So I admire anyone who can manage more than that. (And stare in astonished fear at the people doing FIVE, OMG.)

[identity profile] thefourthvine.livejournal.com 2008-12-25 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
I love Sports Night so much. Some fannish loves just never fade, you know?

And, hey, making dinner: I believe that counts as a family thing. (It better! That's what I was doing in between putting up this poll and feeding the earthling.)

I am reading my friendslist on a wee netbook and actually missed the
"enter your other fandom here" field, but yes, LEVERAGE, definitely and absolutely and YAY. It's a total sweetheart of a show with a heart as big as ten Whovilles, and about as much subtlety as a brickbat to the head, but hilarious and awesome no matter what. It's so fun. I love it!

(Also, Live Free Or Die Hard. What??? There's a lot of great fic, actually!)

I haven't read Hikaru no Go in ages, but I will always look back at it fondly. It's one of the few manga series that I can read over and over again and still get something new out of it every time. *chinhands*

[identity profile] thefourthvine.livejournal.com 2008-12-25 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
I still re-read it from time to time. And I rewatched the whole thing - really weird for me! - when the earthling was extremely new and I spent all my time either nursing or pumping. I love it so very much - it and Princess Tutu are the things I'd make everyone watch/read if I could.

Oh, Akira. Oh, Hikaru. *heart swells with love*

There needs to be more Sports Night fic in the world. Remember the renaissance that was going on a year or so ago? When fic was pouring out regularly? Best time in my fannish life.

It makes me so happy to see all the love for Sports Night in these comments. YAY, SN!

And I'm here for the recs, but also for updates on my honorary Grandson!!!! ::beams::

Your honorary grandson has mastered peas! (It looked like he wasn't going to go there - he basically came out and said that he didn't even think this was FOOD - but we tried again the next day and he was like, "Yes, fine, I will eat this. If I must. Because I am such an angel. But I don't LIKE - oh, hey! This is pretty tasty!") He is off tomorrow to visit his other grandmother's house for the very first time, so please hope very hard that he survives the lengthy car drive there and back with no meltdown. And he's learned to make a new face, which is pure comedy, and a new noise that gets REALLY OLD after the first few hours.

Just, you know - there will be an update at the usual time. But he's your honorary grandson, so I thought you should get a taste now.

[identity profile] rhiannon-jehane.livejournal.com 2008-12-25 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
There's another reason I'm here. And I'm going to tell you allllll about it in the comments.

I love your sense of humor and the way you write. I have finally learned not to eat or drink anything while reading your posts, because snorting ginger ale through my nose is painful.

I don't remember why I came, but I stayed for your sense of humour! I also forgot a fandom, LKH Anita Blake:Vampire Hunter. I know, but I can't help it. And I think I've fallen into Sports Night. Just once I'd like to find a fandom that the show hasn't already been canceled!

[identity profile] thefourthvine.livejournal.com 2008-12-25 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

And Sports Night is an AWESOME fandom. I encourage everyone to fall into it! (Sadly, I don't really know anything about Anita Blake - like, I had no idea there was even FF for that. I have learned something!)

What we might call the Whoverse if that didn't have Grinchian overtones

TRUE STORY: My mother's name is Cindy Lou. She was not, however, named after the Who.

[identity profile] thefourthvine.livejournal.com 2008-12-25 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
I pity your mother as never before! I mean, I assume her parents could not have known what they were doing, but it's a seriously unfortunate naming choice. Does she get grouchy when people watch How the Grinch Stole Christmas?

And I remember when I first found your LJ. You were this legendary being! I didn't dare comment for, like, the first two years! And now I know details about the state of your insides and have made a mental note to interrogate you on the subject of massage (specifically, how to find someone to give one who won't make me hideously, geechily body-conscious) sometime soon. I love the internets. They are a great leveler.

I just friended you really recently *waves shyly*, drawn by recs, yes, but also meta! of all kinds on general fannish stuff and especially on anything and everything having to do with writing.:)

Though I'm currenly actively involved only in sga (and to an extent still, Brokeback), I go through periods where I will revisit favorite fic from prior fandoms and/or explore fic by favorite writers, or recced fic, from other fandoms. I'll try out just about any slash if it's heavily recced by people I trust when I'm one of those phases, as well as original work. I don't participate in any of those fandoms though, just occasionally read a fic or two.

Also, omg I forgot to list Master & Commander as one I revisit, a fandom where there are so few fic (but such marvelous ones!) I probably have some of them memorized, lol.

Hi! You are of course already known to me through your extremely awesome stories, but it's nice to meet in - okay, not in person. In comments? Whatever.

I go through periods where I will revisit favorite fic from prior fandoms and/or explore fic by favorite writers, or recced fic, from other fandoms.

Oh, yes. Most definitely. I didn't even put The Sentinel on here, but I'm currently rereading all my favorites from that fandom. (There's just something very comforting about Jim and Blair. You'll probably have to take my word for it.) And I will take a chance on almost anything if it's highly recommended - I mean, I recently started reading Naruto stories, even though I have to keep checking Wikipedia to find out who the characters are and what the heck is going on. Clearly, if there is great FF, I will read it. My limits are few.

Also, omg I forgot to list Master & Commander as one I revisit, a fandom where there are so few fic (but such marvelous ones!) I probably have some of them memorized, lol.

Oh, Master and Commander. I had almost forgotten about it. Such awesome stories! Not nearly enough of them! Aubrey/Maturin forever!
