Poll: Vid Watching
This is the counterpart to the poll I posted earlier. (It, uh, had to undergo some revisions after the results of that poll.) And this one is for anyone who has ever seen a vid.
Again, feel totally free to pimp. I'd love to get a range of responses on this one.
After this, there'll be a round of vid meta coming out, but then I swear we'll go back to fan fiction. I'm really starting to miss recommending the written word.

Well, naturally. What else would you do? And let me facilitate your mania and self pimp by pointing you to my vids tag (http://thefourthvine.livejournal.com/tag/vids). Many of my favorite vids are mentioned there and should not be missed at all by anyone ever. (By the way - I congratulate you on your excellent timing; you got DSL during Vividcon, meaning your first week of high-speed downloading is likely to be one of the best of the whole year.)
I did want to mention, though, that passworded vids are less likely to be grabbed by me, at least right now. I always feel awkward emailing a stranger, and my urge to see a particular vid (especially if it's not in my fandom, or recced because of especially nifty editing, or something) tends to pass pretty quickly anyway - if I can't get at it right away, I'm not likely to get it at all. I'm probably missing out on some brilliant stuff.
You are. You really, really are. And, see, I get the hesitancy to email people for passwords; for a long time, I wouldn't do it, and the only reason I ever got up the nerve to is that the first time I was emailing a site with an auto-responder for password requests, so I wasn't actually initiating interaction with a person. For a long time, requesting a password was this Big Major Deal for me.
But it isn't anymore, because I've done it enough, and it is - I really cannot emphasize how worthwhile it is, and how not-weird it will become.
Out of curiosity, because

I did not know about Vividcon, though. Go me!
I sure wish all password requests were met with an auto-responder. I always feel like I'm bothering people to ask. On the other hand, I would absolutely ask via LJ, because there's something less formal about LJ in general that makes me feel like I'm allowed to pop in out of nowhere and tell people they're brilliant and ask them for things - it's a fanspace, so it feels a bit more permissible. But then, I spent the first six years of my fannish life as a fanfiction ninja (posting fic in the night! Never talking to anyone!), and the last four years as a great big LJing nerd, so my perspective may be somewhat skewed. :-)
But I'm willing to try. Some day. Really.

You're not, truly. Vidders like to be asked for passwords; it's like downloads - it tells them someone is interested in their stuff.
And if you're willing to do it, the easiest way is probably to get the major passwords in one swoop and log into each page when you get the password (provided your browser saves password info). That way, when new vids come out, or when you hit recs for old vids, or when you're bored and looking for something to dl, you'll have the passwords.
(MMWD did a very good round-up of the major password-required sites here (http://makesmewannadie.livejournal.com/255203.html); if you send off for all those passwords, you'll basically never have to do it again. And AMV.org is an auto-responder, like any other site registration, and triptychvids.com may be an auto-responder, though I'm not sure.)

Great. Now I want to be a fan fiction ninja. But, really, too late for that. It just sounds so cool.
I hope, at the very least, that you have a fan fiction ninja icon. Your long and successful ninja career deserves icon immortalization.

... I still feel annoying, though. :-)

And with three passwords, you're one-third of the way there. (Can I ask which three you got? In return, I offer to tell you some of my favorite vids on whichever sites they are; all those sites have fabulous vids on offer.)
And Post Blue is definitely technically amazing, though I have to appreciate it from kind of at a distance; I find Firefly vids are really tough to connect to if you don't know the source - much more difficult than, say, Angel or Buffy vids were in the days when I didn't know who those characters were. But I totally agree with the WOW. It is a stunning vid.)
